Digipak Drafting

Drafting For My Digipak

Before the creation of my digipak I decided to draw out four possible drafted ideas roughly so that I could then spearhead my ideas into a narrower idea and then create a greater final piece overall. I believe that this was an effective method of planning as I now have a better idea that is also much clearer in my head and this will then lead to me being time efficient but also successful in creating a professional piece of work.

My first design is of a clock that will have the hands spinning around very quickly inside of it with the title of the album also in the centre of the clock. Although in this draft the effectiveness is not clear due to myself not being very artistic, the clock would be an old Victorian clock and the hands would be over-elaborate in order to appeal to the interests of the indie genre which prefer retro and vintage products. Furthermore, the clock theme adheres to the title of the album and this could therefore imply why the this draft could be relevant to being my selected choice for my final piece as it clearly represents what the album is all about.

The second draft would be of a built up area as the sun is setting and the street lights are on. I believe that this would reflect the connection between modern society and the beauty of nature and would therefore be a great representative of the artist that I am using as they are a very powerful soul singer who sings over electronic beats, and this would then be reflected in the album art. Furthermore, I feel as though the lights and bright orange colour of the sky as the sun sets leaves a lot of room for editing and this could then convert a mediocre image into a fantastic piece of art.

Next, I designed a long shot of a man sat on a bench admiring the very scenic autumn view around him. The man is also wearing a trench coat and a baker’s cap of which both pieces of clothing are both strongly related to being worn by my artist Alex Clare, and I think that this would then entice the audience into thinking that it is him sat on the bench. This enigma code will intrigue the audience and I believe that this will help them into gaining interest into the digipak and wanting to look into it in more detail. As a result of this, I strongly feel as though this would be a successful digipak and without it being too hard to create, I would seriously consider using this idea.

Finally, I decided to have a draft which placed the focal point of the album art as being the name of the artist as they will have the greatest star image which will then lure in the audience simply because of their name and what connotations of success and fond memories that have of it. I placed the artist name in the largest font in the centre of the digipak with the album title in smaller font underneath, meanwhile all of these will be on top of a scenic view with a train passing through. Yet again, this combines the modern culture with archaic qualities, and as I expressed earlier this would express the ideas and theme of the artist well. I think this therefore places this draft as a major contender for the final product.
